What is the NDA Exam?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam is a national-level entrance test conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. It is the gateway for young aspirants to join the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force as officers after rigorous training at the NDA, Pune.

Eligibility Criteria for NDA Exam

1.	Age Limit	Candidates must be aged 16.5 to 19.5 years as of the start of the course. No age relaxation is provided for any category.
2.	Nationality	The candidate must be a citizen of India or meet specific criteria for Nepal or Bhutan citizens.
3.	Educational Qualification	For the Army Wing Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 or equivalent from a recognized board. For Air Force and Naval Wings: Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
4.	Physical Fitness	Candidates must meet strict physical and medical standards set by the Armed Forces. The medical test is conducted after clearing the written exam and SSB interview.

Exam Details

Written Examination

The NDA written exam comprises two papers:

Mathematics
- Total Marks: 300
- Duration: 2.5 hours
General Ability Test (GAT)
- Total Marks: 600
- Duration: 2.5 hours
- Sections: English, General Knowledge (including current events, history, geography, and science)

Marking Scheme:
- Mathematics: +2.5 for correct answers, -0.83 for incorrect answers
- GAT: +4 for correct answers, -1.33 for incorrect answers

SSB Interview

Candidates who clear the written exam are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.
The SSB process spans 5 days and evaluates candidates on personality, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Final Merit List

The final selection is based on the combined score of the written exam (900 marks) and the SSB interview (900 marks).
